Hey guys.. I was just trying to contemplate between the three major forum softwares.. phpBB, IPB, and VBulletin It seems to me that there are a lot more skin coders and designers for phpBB, and IPB, but VB there are close to none. I make skins for people and I would be interested in working with Vbulletin skin coders yet NO ONE knows how to code skins....Anyone know why? Is this because Vbulletin is too complicated or is phpBB just way too easy?? - Osama Syed
If you can afford a vbulletin licence then it is definatly worth having. It is much much better then PHPBB & SMF. There are plenty of coders etc for VB check out vbulletin.org

Close to none? Bwahahaha... Sorry. There are a LOT of good people out there working on hacks and skins, you just looked in the wrong places.
I know there are other options out there, especially FREE or cheaper options, but there aren't any other options truthfully if you're serious about developing a community. vBulletin is feature rich right out of the zip (does anyone really say box anymore for software?) and they have an amazing userbase that develops add-ons and modifications. You can see what I'm talking about at vBulletin.org.
Its no contest..vbulletin blows the rest away. There's so much more support for it too...with tons of mods and hacks. And the Jelsoft folks are always on top of the latest security threats. I've found a vb site looks more professional/established too...whereas a phpBB site for example usually looks amateurish unless you invest heavily in a custom skin. Ultimately though the features in Vb beat the snot out of everybody else's offerings.
You don't even need to be a coder to work with vbulletin. I just did some modifications and my forum was all ready: www.e-investing.in (I know no coding and can't even make a simple html page.) There are many guys who work with vbulletin. Make a thread on DP - you will surely get a good response.
vbulletin is the best forum IMO, give a try to it, or if you want free then try mybb its like vbulletin
I actually got like 12 vBulletins running, 4 of them are very big. For about 1 year I also own one IPB license. I checked out like every popular board on the planet and my Top3 would be: 1) vBulletin 2) IPB 3) phpbb3 (the new one looks quite good indeed) IPB is pretty innovative, they turned the profiles into myspace looking sites with a good social aspect. vBulletin is technically ahead of every other board. vB is just a safe buy, you can't be wrong purchasing it.
vBulletin rocks. It allows awesome customization making your forum not only attractive but also a unique piece of technology.
