Yeah, it's a little scary how slow it is. Although I've done a ton of internal tuning to handle the traffic/loads. I would think they would have done the same though...
Looks like they forgot to change the template. Links are pointing to index.php and forum.php instead of / for the homepage. And WTH is with forum.php? Ahh maybe index.php will be the CMS and forum.php is the forum.
I mean no disrespect but have you inquired of such with the developers? They may not be aware of load problems with the larger sites using VB. Maybe they're not aware of the fixes you've come up with. Or do they frown upon outsiders butting in?
I'm sure they have it under control... they don't need me to tell them how to run a server. I suspect we just have a beefier setup than they do is all. One of their focuses on vBulletin 4.0 is scalability for large sites, so I don't think they would have done anything internally that would make it slower. As far as them being receptive to stuff, yeah... they are. I wrote some of the code they stuck in their source code for load balancing/fail over for memcached servers (memory caching system that can share stuff across multiple servers). http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?186432-Memcache-Pooling-Automatic-Failover
Looks very much like IPB 3 if you ask me, Ill upgrade the forums that ive already got active but after that i think it will be a slow move to IPB. Ill make my final decision after a couple of months of seeing vb4 in action. Im someone that actually likes change but i cant help thinking they are shooting them selves in the foot somehow. Especially since there hasnt been a date for the release of vb5 , if vb5 releases in 12 - 18 months time like ive heard some people saying then this price hike and no year fee will be a waste of time. There may have been developments on those comments since as i saw that a couple of weeks ago but you'd think they would give you a guarantee or something that vb4 is going to last at least 2 or 3 years before having to pay another ( probably inflated again ) price.
Now that vbulletin.com community has been upgraded to vB4.0 I see it looks appealing, although I can't help having the feeling that it's.. well, similar to.. something that I've seen before. I used to love how vbulletin was standing out from the other forum styles.
That depends on if you like IPB or not , im not the biggest fan however ill reserve judgement until ive played with vb4 properly
I agree, any font that is better Arial. ALso, there's a small (display) problem in Opera when I clicked on "Today's Posts"
