Vbulletin 4.0 or Vbulletin 4.0 Publishing Suite ? Does anyone think getting the FULL publishing suite is worth the extra money? -C
I would definitely like to hear the answer to that question too... The whole vBulletin deal has been somewhat of an annoying experience lately..
i would also like to know the answer as i am looking for a forum script and want to get vbulletin as its the best so the answer to your question will help me too
Here's the thing to think about: What type of user interaction do you need to have off of the forum? Do you need to have users leave comments for articles? How about user contributed content? Besides the forum, what would he user need to be 'logged in' to do? I am personally going with a vb4/drupal set up. They will be stand alone installs sharing nothing but will have the same theme. Users will never need to do anything in the drupal side. I don't want off-forum discussion (ie..comments on articles) as that is why there is a forum. Just my .02
Personally i would say not worth it.. vbulletin is a forum .. if u need a blog why not wordpress.. if u need cms why not joomla
I think it's worthless, if you want to publish some news like a portal besides forum. I personaly will not switch to 4.0, even if I can do it for free (without publish thing), because of old style I have, and plugins and etc. I dont want problems without reasons, Im sticking with 3.8.something.
After looking at the publishing suite - I am not to happy with it. Is seems that you have to have the CMS and the forum in the same directory. So its not possible to have the CMS in the HTML root and the forum in a /forum folder or subdomain. The CMS has various problems, such as high query load, styling problems, vbulletin is not even using the CMS for their home page. If the CMS is not good enough for the vbulletin homepage, why should it be good enough for customers? There are various styling problems with the vbulletin.com forum with firefox that have gone unfixed. If you want vbulletin 4 or the cms - I recommend you wait until the first major update and then go from there. To be perfectly honest, there are a lot of vbulletin owners that are switching to invision power board. Mainly because of the quality of vb 4 and the new pricing scheme.
This is not accessible, only to members. Hence worthless link. Can you share what it talks about? Can you elaborate on this some more. What’s bad about new VB pricing scheme? What quality issues are present in v4?
Sorry, I did not realize the link went to a private forum on vbulletin.com. I asked if the forum could be in a forum folder, and the cms be put into an /articles sub folder. The answer was no - the cms and the forum have to be in the same directory. Read through this forum section - http://www.adminaddict.net/forum/vbulletin-internet-brands-passionate-discussion/ There are a lot of vbulletin forum owners that are not happy with the way things are going. There is too much for me to go into detail. Its everything from having to buy the blog with the CMS now, to simply fixing style issues.
Point well taken,, i suppose if you want a forum go with The Regular Vbulletin 4.0, if you want the best Blog platform then maybe word press MU add on,somethings like that. -C So Kev, Do you think you will end up upgrarding to Regular Vbulletin , the suite or none? Your opinions are valued! -C
the CMS is rough right now, but in a few more months I think it should be a lot better. I like the forums overall, but in general it all just needs a bit more attention to detail. I like the blogs, always have.
Yeah , i agree that with a few more months of use and testing it will be better. I think im gonna wait to upgrade. -C
Still need time to understand the trick, 3.8 looks like far better than 4. As for CMS and all, I kind of like it.. Some people write good stuff on the forum and it will come handy if I just have to promote their thread to article.
Invision Power seems to know how to properly develop a product and manage a company in a successful manner. IB, on the other hand, don't seem to have the slightest clue as to what they are doing. If I was starting fresh, I'd definitely go for IP.Board. Since my sites are already powered by vBulletin, it's not feasible to purchase IP.Board licenses and make the conversions. So I'm just going to stick with vBulletin 3.8 for as long as I can. vB 4 is to be untouched by me, because IB has totally destroyed the product.
Depends, if you need blog and CMS, get Publishing Suite. Or maybe you can read my thread first before buy the software.
Please Elaborate on how they have destroyed the vbulletin product. Is Vbulletin under New ownership? If so , this is news to me.. Vbulletin has always seemed like the industry leader. Please enlighten me.. Thank you, -C
