http://www.vbulletin.com/ Indefinite software license Includes Forums, Blogs, and CMS modules Free updates for this version Discounts for next version upgrades Free forum and ticket support Total value: $495 Discounted: $235 per license?????????????????????? Years of support.... Numerous licenses and now this? Is it a joke?
Very cheap for what you get if you ask me. The $40/year price for upgrades/support goes away. vBulletin 3.x was released over 5 years ago, so that's $200 in annual support/upgrade fees that you don't have to pay any more for one. So when you factor that in, it costs what, $35? The $235 price is for the suite, which includes a lot of other stuff (blogs, CMS, trouble ticketing, etc.) If you just want the forum software, it's $195 and *still* included indefinite support and upgrades until 5.x comes out. Not only that the price for the entire suite is only $130 if you have an active 3.x license (I already purchased it for here). To be honest, I think it should be more expensive.
At some point... probably not right away though. We have ~300 custom plug-ins I'm gonna need to redo for 4.0 and probably another 100 or so templates that have been modified. So will take some time to get through everything and redo them.
Damn they want to charge me $250 to "upgrade" to 4.0 on my expired license. May as well buy another license I guess and just use the old one on "something".
Oh ok, perhaps I misread something. If I have a license it only costs $35 to upgrade to the latest vBulletin 4.0 version?
right now, no it costs $250 for inactive / expired or $130 for active 3.8 licenses. Better off at the moment buying a new license and keeping the old one for a small project of sorts.
Also, if your existing license is active, you get 4.0 free (just the forum, not the suite) for free for the life of your existing license.
Am I reading something wrong? Looks like it's $285 for the suite package, or just $195 for just the forum.
Yeah because there isn't a thing called inflation and a cost to develop software. Their costs go up the prices will probably have to go up to compensate for that fact. They add a lot of new features there probably should be an additional price to reflect that.
Updated, seems they did drop the price of the renewals for expired people. Not by much but it helps. $210 for now, have to wait a few days for them to fix their billing system.
they are charging 235$ for new customer and 250$ for existing customer. How it is fair ? Most of trouble is with those who purchase license recently (before pre-sale) and those who have blog (lifetime update). They are been charged twice.
Yeah I don't know if I'll be updating, does seem a bit excessive. Also very unfair that upgrades for expired licenses are more than new licenses but this will be fixed in a few days. I was planning to renew my license ($60) then buy the suite ($130) but they've said inactive licenses will be able to get it for $190 anyway. Still might just renew and then pay the $130 though because there still isn't an actual release date yet is there? I have to say, it is tempting to turn to warez though. While I own several sites now, for those getting starting, it is a bit much and, I only have one vbulletin forum (well only one forum) which belongs to my first website which I started because of personal interests. After 100 users I upgraded it to VB from summit else but it took me, about a year at least through advertising/adsense, just to make back that money. And even now, it'll take me a few months to get enough to afford the $190 :|. Unless I dip into my house money (bills food, etc).
My 3.8 license expires in January. After reading their site I assume i get the vB 4 license for free with updates. The only thing i am unsure about is what happens in January when my license expires?
