Hi Everyone...Any help with some coding tips for ad placement and formatting would be appreciated. Setup with COOP seems to have worked on the first try but I have some lingering questions. Our site is a pure VB 3.x site that requires paid membership to access the forums. Therefore, 'unregistered' users can only see the main page and some general forums that have been granted permission to see (ie. news, etc.). Obviously, this restricts search engines as well...Not a problem with PR. Right now as the coop ads are setup (defaul install instructions), I have three ads displaying from the coop network of advertisers. Questions for VB users or others that know: 1. Ads only appear in the footer. I want to place ads in other areas of the forums and threads. Can you provide some sample code or instructions to place an ad under a new post when viewed? Mind you, I want to retain the footer ads. 2. How do you format the footer template so the ads appear horizontally rather than vertically? I tried putting spaces, commas, periods, single quotes as found when doing a search, but my attempt in coding does not work. 3. Is the archive/index.php only for archived pages? What if I do not archive or cannot archive because our site is permissions based on only paid users? This may be a misleading question...<ignore> 4. Why am I getting ads unrelated to computer/technology such as ads for rugs, petco, and cerebral palsy? I setup my account for computer/technology? I guess my main questions for the VB user community here partcipating in coop advertising is to provide some tips and tricks to how you added code to your templates that I can replicate? Think of it as your showcase so others may try them out. In the meantime I will scour the VB users here and PM them on some help to get my ads to appear elsewhere besides the footer. Thanks!!
It would just depend on the template you want to put it in. In the vB AdminCP, you can add the ad_network[0] variable(s) to whatever template you want to control the placement. The footer one is just the easiest because it's site-wide. Ad a <br> between $ad_network[0], $ad_network[1], etc. The theming isn't in use yet. Right now it's just collecting data for when it does go into use.
Thanks Shawn for the time to answer my questions. Hope others can provide some hints as well...I'm going to try other template areas to see the effect. GigaEnvy

Is this only in my footer template or do I need to do something in the index.php also? I tried the html <br> code in the footer template with no change...Then I fumbled with the index.php with no change. Seeing that index.php in the /archive folder didn't do anything I removed your code. After refreshing my page I saw two adds next to each other that I wanted with the 3rd ad centered underneath. Refreshing again put all the adds in sequence vertically. My goal is to place two ads next to each other with some spaces since 3 ads is too large to span site resolution. Again thanks, GigaEnvy
<bump> anyone? I cannot for the life get the ads to appear next to each other. No matter what the code I place in my footer template in admin cp of Vbulletin: $ad_network[0] | $ad_network[1] | $ad_network[2] or <br /> or <br> or other variants found in searching, only produces vertical ad placement. Is the code syntax I use in index.php have to be in the same family as the footer template? *babbling* Is this a problem because I am serving both text and graphic banners as selected from the setup instructions for VB 3.x? Is the problem my code in the archive/index.php file? Need some pointers! This is not a validation problem.
The majority of banners that appear are text, but I set myself up with text and graphic during the initial setup. Sometimes two text ads appear with a graphic and sometimes two graphics appear with one text. Bottom line is that I selected the text and graphic codeset when going through the setup instructions. I am pretty much lost at this point. Any help would be appreciated or some things I could try.
Thanks for the PM's earlier. I want both text and graphics which is why I selected that configuration. On your site you only serve text ads and it seems to work. Like in our earlier discussions, no matter what the syntax in the footer template in Vbulletin the ads stack vertically. Maybe I'll start from scratch to see if I get better results. BTW, I saw a fishing website banner exchange program at <Edited - copy and paste this because I am not allowed to add a live link> www.fishhoo.com/exchange.htm. Don't know if you're participating or want to...Just an FYI. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH - "Live links and signatures are not available until you have 10 total posts."
