You probably won't notice most of the changes to vBulletin 3.5.2, but one that is worth pointing out is the natural language search queries are HUGELY improved. Try doing a search for more than one word and you should get pretty specific results now. Some of the minor things... Skype support, lots of minor bug fixes, some minor backend enhancements (one specifically that allowed me to revert 3 templates to default and use plug-ins instead).
I just searched for the term hippo pie and I got 25 results. I checked a couple of threads and most of them only had one word. Is that the way it's suppossed to work, I mean barring the bizarre search?
Yeah it will give you the most relevant results possible. For example now that you posted that term, if you search for it again, it probably will only give this thread (and not the 25 other results it fell back to before).
I get 150 results, but this is first now. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/search.php?searchid=837994 until it expires.
Yeah I think I got 150 the first time to put only saw the first 25 results. It doesn't seem to take it long to index the site. I searched about 2-3 minutes ago and got the same results I did initially. I just searched now and this thread did pull up first. That's pretty cool.
Yeah I just wanted to see what kind of results I'd get for two bizarre phrases to test out the new search features.
Also... the search settings on the advanced search carry forward for the global search (it didn't do that before). For example I set mine to be boolean mode (which carries over to the global search now).
Just saw a small bug that I saw previously with the upgrade to one of the 3.5's: 1. reported a post using the Report Post button 2. that went through fine 3. redirected to the forum index page but with the following url: http://forums.digitapoint.com/./
Works for me... I did some checking and it looks like your browser is not sending referrer info, so it's not going to be able to return you to where you started (it's going to be specific to users that have browsers without referring info).
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me as to why it would even be based on the referring URL, so I opened a bug report with vBulletin and hopefully get it changed on account of it being a design issue. If they choose to not change the way it works, I'll just make a plug-in that switches the behavior to not be based on referrer.
My browser is IE6-SP2... why wouldn't it be sending referrer info? Firewall? Accelerator cache proxy?
I'd love to upgrade to 3.5, but when I did try it on one forum, I lost all the customizations. You know of an easy way to keep all the customizations and upgrade?
Not possible... 3.5.x is completely different than 3.0.x on the backend. I ended up coding all my customizations again from scratch (as plug-ins) for 3.5.
If nothing else, you gotta love the responsiveness of vBulletin to bug fixes (and in this case a design suggestion). It's been "fixed" for the next version already: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/bugs35.php?bugid=1947
Also the weekly and daily subscriptions finally got fixed (because I whined and started an argument lol)
