I have been looking at some of the sites that use the script, I am really impressed with the features, I ran a board a couple of years ago but was not quite as nice as this one. I was thinking about purchasing a license, but they charge quite a bit for the rights. Do we get a discount thru Digitalpoint? hehe. :D

Uhm, no... :) But if you purchase it through the link at the bottom I get money (hah!).

Truthfully, if you are going to be serious about running a forum though, it's definitely worth it (it's really not that expensive).

I'd second that. I've used phpbb & vBulletin, and like all the standard features (especially the admin features) available with vBulletin. Worth the price in my opinion.

Would you say that vBulletin requires no upkeep once it is configured, or is there a significant amount of maintenance?

    Thanks

It doesn't require any maintenance at all.

Cool Thanks. Should I also assume that installation is a breeze and paying them to do it is not required.

At the end of your advice, I will use you vBulletin link if I go ahead and buy :)

Yes... it's a snap. I've never heard of anyone myself that had them install it (I'm sure it's happened before though). I've not heard of anyone that even had any installation problems for that matter.

My first website was my forum - VB.

    I knew NOTHING.

I had no troubles.....thats how easy it is.

Its also very easy to customize. Its template driven - to to change things you just change the html in a template.

THere are also thousands of hacks available to enhance the forum with various features.

Ask the manufacturer... :) I'm not the developer (nor a reseller).

VBulletin is great, much better than using PHPBB or IPB (of which I've used both when I don't have the money), and the members love it more than the other two.

Definitely well worth the money, if you're sure that your community won't die in a few months.
