vbseo is server intensive, why?

I'm being booted by my present hosting company, this is my forum transfer in less than 6 months.

I'm using vbseo and vbulletin.com forum software.

I'm not on a dedicated server because I don't have to be yet, but is it normal for vbseo to consume so many server resources?

I thought it was an optimized vbulleint plug in.

Now I have to move my forum and search for new hosting again.........

    What's the deal with vbseo?

I've heard about this before too. I've accessed a few forum sites using vbseo, and they seem a lot slower than they were before using it.

makes sense for it to be server intensive really.

a forum alone can add a strain to the server (depending on the size of the forum) (think how many queries are being sent to mysql per pageview)

then you got vbseo that is rewriting the urls etc (this will then hit the apache load)

a large forum with vbseo would need at least a VPS to host it.

A VPS? Why not a dedicated server?

We find that performance issues typically arise when:

    (a) The server is already over taxed, prior to installing vBSEO.
    (b) There is a misconfiguration on the server.

We recommend anyone running a forum that has excessively high CPU usage (even without vBSEO) upgrade, so that your forum runs smoothly. If you are operating in a comfortable environment, installing vBSEO should have minimal impact if any.

Our support team will assist all new customers who experience an issue with performance to pinpoint the source of the problem.

You might be surprised to know that the size of the forum and how active it is, isn't always a good indicator of performance issues to be expected. Many large forums run without noticing any performance impact. Likewise, we've had small, inactive forums that have run into performance issues, until we were able to pinpoint the problem.

If it's not a configuration issue, and your server is just overtaxed, then we do have a series of vBSEO Optimization tips to help reduce the load:
    http://www.vbseo.com/f2/vbseo-optimization-tips-12963/

We continue to make additional performance optimizations with every release. vBSEO 3.1 which is due for release soon will include even further performance optimization processes embedded.

Oh ya - and it also will include full native support for vBulletin Blog. :)

Why not do Clustered or Application hosting for forums? There are many high quality hosting companies where you don't need a VPS to run your vBulletin well.

That's a good story on the BMW M3 Joe :D

Sorry guys, it wasn't vbseo that was causing the problem, it was another script that I'm hosting along with my vb board.

I hired a professional programmer to check out the solution and he told me that vbseo was not the culprit of the problem. They told me the problem and it has been fixed.

On a side note, the programming company was very impressed with vbseo.

Thanks vbseo.com for an excellent product.

Glad to hear that your issue has been corrected.

Our next version will be released non-encoded as well, and will have additional performance savings.
