    I found this - http://www.vbseo.com/
which is a gr8 tool for making the forum URL's SE friendly.
I have seen many BIG forums using this tool.
Did anyone ever see such tool or MOD for phpbb?
Please share if you have any related tips.

The archive is a viable option, but I'd prefer to make the forum itself more seo friendly. Besides, when people find you via searches bringing them to your vanilla archive, membership conversion is really low. About the only thing archives are good for is putting annoying ads on them without ticking off your members.

The Able2Know mod is a good starting point, but makes the duplicate url problem phpBB has even worse. It may get more pages indexed, but few would actually rank well. If you've got 1,ooo pages on your site, would you rather have 6k pages indexed with poor ranking, or 1k pages indexed that rank much better? Not only that, but since BigDaddy's algo change in the way pages are indexed (basically how deep they'll go) you risk having a bunch of supplemental pages or not getting pages cached at all. It's a good foundation, but there's some stuff you just don't want to do and a buch of stuff you need to do. His static url's are pretty worthless too, what's the point of rewriting url's from one worthless format to another? about15132.html doesn't carry anymore weight then ?t-15132 does. Keyword url's or bust.

As for a pre-modded phpBB... those things have so many useless mod's done to them that it would make it an absolute nightmare to ever change themes, so your stuck with the handful of pre-modded themes that come with the pre-modded version. Hell, all the cool themes are one of the things that make phpBB so great.

The most important things for phpBB seo is getting rid of the duplicate url issues, improving page titles, and getting a heading tag in there for your forum posts. Nofollows on the member names, etc. is a big plus too when it comes to pagerank dran. Nothing but the improved page title comes with A2K's mod, the rest you have to figure out yourself.

Doesn't the whole seo friendly URL thing cause problems with duplicate content?

I should also probally point out, being a satisfied vBSEO user myself, that vBSEO really offers quite alot more than just a URL rewrite, they also have the capacity to include context relevant information throughout your templates (such as first_x_post_words), and also the ability to implement trackback and pingback features which could well improve the relevancy of link exchanges within forums and also help make them a much more competitive source for link building and improve the general community ethos of the "forumsphere" :) vBSEO have a demo which i would recommend you checkout.

I have no problem getting my Aibo forum indexed without rewrite.
I just did a lot of editing.
Page titles are important and restricting areas with no content to bots too.

It's not about getting indexed. Getting indexed is a base requirement.

    It's about getting ranked well.

Google uses page filenames as an important part of their relevancy algorithm. This means that the keyword-keyword.html URL's of vbSEO will have very good effects on search engine placement.

I just switched from phpBB to vBulletin on one of my forums. vbSEO was one of the main reasons why I did this.

Next weekend, I am scheduled to do this to another one of my forums.

And see, no affiliate links here. :)

Lol, more were doing it :D
I did notice a while back that the site got more hits with rewrite (keywords in url) but what about duplicate content and sitemaps?

Now i'm doubting again if i should use a rewrite :(
