 I have one of my sites on a shared host at Godaddy. All of a sudden today I can't even get to the home page. I can't get to the admincp. There is no error message in either Firefox or IE. vB is throwing off tons of DB connection errors to my admin email account.

I call godaddy and they say that it's because of vB. They say that b/c vB actually creates 3 to 4 MySql connections I am overloading my site's connection to its db. They came back to me after being on hold and basically told me not to use vB.

Ok, I think this is BS. The reason I think its BS is b/c my site's uniques are actually down about 20% over the last month and this just started happening today. Has this happened to anyone else?

Well what do you expect? Godaddy hosting is horrible... My friend had about a 67% uptime for the month he had it!

Have you asked over at vBulletin.com? There is likely good info there if the situation existed for other vB users.

Godaddy doesn't have the best reputation as a host. As with most things you get what you pay for and if you're happy paying for forum software (VBulletin over punBB, MyBB, phpBB, etc...) then I would try a different host.

Webhostingtalk (WHT) is a good place to start the search.

    Godaddy hosting simply sucks.

My phpbb forums (quite modded) would take 10 minutes to load! I am not kidding. On contacting them and specifically telling them all my members were having the same problem, they asked me to check my internet connection. I don't know what to say. I told them it was all my visitors not just me. Then, I switched to vb and it was the same thing. You really cannot trust godaddy...it just can't handle forums. I currently use hostgator, they seem to work well for me, good speed (although my forum is medium sized.)

Perhaps you can do a reverse IP check to see how many sites are hosted on the same server as of yourself. Mostly the culprit is memory especially when you are in a shared server environment.

Trying to run a vbulletin forum, or any forum for that matter on a godaddy shared account is like trying to fly to the moon in a helicopter. Godaddy is correct, vbulletin's connections to the DB are quite intensive, however godaddy should be able to handle it. It also depends on how many people are on the same server as you. There could be a bunch of people using the DB at the same time.

I called and bitched to GD about this. They said that they only allow 50 concurrent DB connections from the shared hosting accounts to the DB servers.

As much as I hate it i think I'm going to have to move this site over to one of their virtual dedicated servers. I don't have the $$$ to pay for a dedicated server yet; but I have to get this site back online and the virtual server seems like the only option.
