That's right but, that can be kept to a minimum. Only a large generation of fornicators and adulterers can spread it to this pandemic degree.

You said "Married people who don't commit adultery can't spread it." That is what you said and that is not the truth. Sorry if that doesn't fit with your religious beliefs, that is just the way it is.

That will be far and few. (but it can happen)

The aids epidemic that has effected so many people world wide has been spread by fornication and homosexuality and illegal drug use, sharing needles.

Is your god so incompetent that he is incapable of inventing a virus that effects only fornicators, drug users and homosexuals?

Most of the people infected with HIV in Africa were born with the infection, They are entirely innocent, They didn't even have time to sin. So either your god is an incompetent imbecile, or a spiteful asshole. Which is it?

HE passes judgement on all young and old.
Everyone will have to except it! We all have to die someday.

keep trying to force that square peg logic through the round hole.

If AIDS was created to punish homosexuals, fornicators and drug users why is that a large percentage of people with HIV were born with the virus? They were infected before they were born, they didn't have time to be gay, take drugs or fornicate.

See, you are in an unfortunate position because your belief in god means you have to believe a) god doesn't give a shit b) he failed when trying to create a punishment or c) he wants to torture children on purpose.

For me it's easy, HIV is a virus, it is self replicating DNA. It has no intent, it has no consciousness and it is indiscriminate, so morality can't be applied to it. This is why it infects children.

Innocent kids - he passes judgment on these? Condemns them to a brutal death, extinguishing a short life?

Let me guess - if an infant makes the declaration of faith, requesting personal salvation, normally reserved to adults of informed mind - if these die, it's just part of the "plan?" A 3-month old born with HIV, if he or she doesn't stand up to declare a personal faith, dies - because he or she is being "judged?"

Yep, makes perfect sense to me.

Sounds like a pretty daoist outlook, lol

Anyway, is a virus life? If it replicates it must have some intent toward procreation or wouldn't it just be inert like a rock? Since HIV has a rapid-evolution mechanism it seems to me like its intent is to replicate, spread, and adapt to dominate its environment. I think if the virus is going to win its own little game it would need to become a positive genetic adaptation to its host.

What the heck is this thread about? The pope and aliens? Dunno if I'm off-topic or just going with the direction the thread has decided on anyway haha

Yeah, this is always an interesting question - whether viruses, complex proteins that reproduce, even DNA, are "life." Interesting:

There is a long standing debate on whether a virus is life or not but the consensus is generally that they aren't because they don't have a metabolism. They are nothing more than self-replicating code (DNA or RNA), Much like a computer virus, except that with computer viruses the code needs a machine to perform it's functions and an organic virus needs a protein shell. We could say that if an organic virus is life based on is apparent desire to reproduce we would have to conclude that a computer virus is alive on the same basis.

Viruses don't intend to replicate and they don't desire to replicate, their genetic code simply makes them replicate. For instance, a virus couldn't one day decide to have a day off, If the circumstance are present for replication it will replicate.
