hello, If I am selling subscriptions to people to see my stock picks for the american stock market. From that subscription revenue would I be able to assume that I am selling my service to americans only (I can't tell just by looking at thier email address) because if I was selling to europeans I would need to collect VAT off them right? or is this something I do not need to worry about really? thank you
Are you processing the payment for the subscription in-house or you are getting a 3rd party to do it ? If it is a 3rd party, let them worry about the VAT otherwise you can always ask for billing address at the same time and determine if VAT needs to be collected or not.
Ah, well, Paypal does not handle VAT. Okay, what you need to do is to set up the 'Buy Now' button or 'Shopping Cart' in the 'Merchant Tools' and there you can request for mailing address and also add the Sales Tax element to it. Perhaps, you could create two order pages, one for EU and one for non-EU members. The EU order page will contain the VAT and the other without.
