Varying the Anchor Text

I've always had different variences of my anchor text - thinking if I don't do that, I may run into trouble other wise.

I read today about a backlinking company that said that they do not vary their anchor text and their advice is not to do it - or it may hurt you.

So which is true? Do I switch up a little on my anchor texts or keep it the same?

Always mix things up a bit you want it to look natural. If you send the same anchor text 1,000 times this could throw up a flag.

Always vary in a percentage mix. But I do remember reading somewhere that advised not to vary the anchor text. That is for like 30-50 new backlinks a month. But if you are building hundreds of links every month then I think it is better to vary the anchor text a little here and there.

I agree with traffic bug. If you build hundreds of links, some variation will help to raise your position in other anchors. I've tried (one month per anchor) it and it works.

    Vary your keywords.
When varying the words use words with the same meaning. For example Google knows that "cars" and "autos" can have the same meaning. This can be easily checked by a few google searches.

First search for the word cars http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cars&start=0&sa=N. You will notice that the word car is bolded in the URLs, Titles, and Descriptions of the results. For the first many pages you will only see car or cars bolded because there are so many results.

Next search for "~cars" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=~cars&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g10 the ~ means to search for words like cars. Now within a page or so you will start seeing the word "autos" bolded. Google knows these words can mean the same thing. Therefore autos would be a good word to add in to your links so that you are not always linking with the same keywords.

bear in mind that you are trying to make your links look natural. In reality, what are the chances of everyone always using the same link text when they link to you on their own accord? If all the links are the same and the text is not the name of the site, then it would seem obvious that you had an influence on how people are linking to you.
