Hi, I have a .co.uk domain and was wondering why my SERP varies so much for the same keyword phrase between countries on google, which are; google.co.uk = SERP 4 google.com = SERP 35 google.com.au = SERP 154 Why are they so different and how to I achieve the same SERP as what I have on google.co.uk? Jimbob
That's the way Google works. You can read more about it here: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/ You won't rank N1 in every country unless your site is CNN.com or something like that.
It does. Google tries to show the most relevant results to every user. The fact that yours is a .co.uk would definitely help it in UK rankings.
To put it simple: co.uk domains rank well in Google.co.uk co.uk domains rank so so in Google.com co.uk domains don't rank well in other countries If you would like to have a chance to rank well worldwide you will need .COM .NET .ORG domain name. co.uk domain is like telling Google: "My business is strictly based and related to UK"
Thanks for the feedback. I have had a lot of contradicting advice regarding this and some is saying that the domain makes no difference and others like yourself say that it does. I have changed by SEO recently and shot from SERP 165 to SERP 35 on google.co.uk over a 4 week period an have held it. I also see a .nl domain ranking very high on google.com for the same search term. Jimbob
The domain makes a difference when it's country specific like in your case. 99,99% of the DP users will agree with what I wrote about co.uk above. When your business is international you should always choose .com or .net domain.
