Variance is a Big factor while playing Poker. That was a concept I learnt a few months back when I started playing poker. I quit playing poker now ... well that's a completely different story and that's not what I want to talk about in this post though. Me still being a novice in this field am amazed at the fact that variance probably is everywhere! I have been writing posts at least one in every two days for about the last 3 months take or give a few posts. Honestly, I haven't been able to make the most out of my site yet, because of various factors, being new, not yet optimized for navigation, not optimized for SEO, not making many cash-making posts, not following other variety of cash yielding procedures like posting other's banners in my PR3 site, etc etc. Thanks, to the answers I received to my post about SEO that I posted here - SEO review Contest (which I'll close this weekend by the way), I am currently filling in the pits or should I say abysses. Made some BIG changes to the title, description, and keywords, last 06/13/2009. Hopefully, it is optimized from that perspective, I still have to work on more factors, before the whole site is optimized. This is what I mean when I say variance that never stops surprising me! My numbers comparison between yesterday and today from adsense. Yesterday -- 333 page impresssions = 0 clicks = $.01 earned Today -- 19 page impressions(till now) = 1 click = $1.62 (Previously all clicks were hardly more than a few cents) When I am glad that my pay per click has increased, (either due to better ads being posted on the site because of the keyword and description optimization or because it was clicked on some post which was talking about --well I don't know which one it is yet) I am not very glad to see such variation, because, from what I learnt in poker, better players have lower variance. In the Sub-Continent's language, I don't want a strike rate of 200% and an average of 15 or 20 runs, but I want a strike rate of 100% with an average of 50+ runs. I would like to see people's opinions posted on what are the major factors that decide pay per click, what kind of variance have you seen, and throw comments on my case. variance is not a concept from poker or the stock market. variance is a concept from statistics, and statistics apply to almost everything, including physics experimentation of relativity or diet pills consumption by teenage girls. everything that is observable by a human being has variance. Tell me of something that does not have variance.
