Variables You Can Use Within Your Ads

    Does anyone have a list of variables you can use within your ads?

    I knew you could do do keywords (the keywords used to pull the ad), but I just noticed an ad that says "2560x1600 Wide Wallpapers".

    Kind of an obscure resolution to be advertising to everyone (it's the resolution I use), so it has to be a variable in the ad copy I'm thinking.

    The keyword variable is the only one available at this time.

    I'm curious, did you see the ad you mentioned as a result of a search or was it an ad displayed via Adsense? If it was because of a search, what term/phrase did you search for?

    Could the ad have been a Flash ad?

    good job randy, nice one! This is the only explanation that I can imagine. Flash Scripts probably can determine your resolution and place it there - very creative idea I can say!

    Try to change your resolution, close your browser and go there again to check if is just a coincidence. (hope you see the same ad again :rolleyes: )

    Also right clicking the ad you can determine if it is a flash ad or not.

    It was a text ad, delivered via AdSense. I know you can get screen resolution via JavaScript, so technically it's not hard. But it certainly looks like it's an available variable to use (even if it's not a "published" one).

    As far as I know is not possible to delivery javascript with your ad. So is not hard, its impossible.

    My vote is that it was just a coincidence so. You're thinking that is a variable but maybe it is a fix text ad that the advertised decided just to put the max resolution that he has there. Who knows?

    AdSense in itself is delivered to the end user via JavaScipt. Not only that but I dug a little on to how much data Google is collecting with that JavaScript, and it is indeed collecting screen resolution data. If you right click any AdSense ad and open the frame in a new window, you can see the URL will have your screen resolution in it. In my case part of the URL is:

    u_h=1600&u_w=2560
