vanity URL question

    Should I be now changing all my back links??? direct and rel=author links??? or will it make no difference???

    It really shouldn't make a difference either way. If you put the vanity URL or the original URL with the number in it they both link to the same page and Google can access all subsequent data from that. And since it is Google's application, they wouldn't punish you for previously established backlinks with the older URL. They aren't that evil.
