Hello DP members, In Advance SEO techniques, what is the value of free directories, and free directory submissions?
In general Directories helps in increasing backlinks and visitors to your website. When its available free, its saving your cost that occurs in case of paid listings.
Firstly backlinks, leading to higher serps, leading to traffic from the search engines = a happy life.
Quality and quantity of free links will help you to achive your goal on slow and steady process which can't be tremed as spamming or black bot in googie ranking
A single directory is not enough. You need directories. Directories on different accounts in which you also have blogs to support the directory. The blogs are spider bait for the search engines to index your site and as the directory grows, so does the value of the links. Build on this and traffic and cash will come, but it is not an over night process.
I prefer building a single directory and strong rather than a thousands. As an example you can see how many ppl are announcing in here that they have a lot of free directories and blah blah blah. A link submitted there is in most of the cases a waste of time. If this is your only "job" and you think you can handle them all, you can try. But take care how you interlink them, because Matt Cutts might squash you as well
I definitely did not mean to infer that you should create thousands of directories. In fact, I would say a network of six or so quality directories, interlinked, would be perfect. I agree with hyper here that you should look to make your directory a quality one, but there are Directory Marketers and Directory owners. You have to decide which one you want to be and know the difference between the 2. I don't get the Matt Cutts thing and getting squashed, but I will file it for future reference....I guess.
That would have been a solid bust when I was in 5th grade. Save it for the kiddie forums man. This is supposed to be about Development here not stupidity.
Thanks for the props! In my my productive directory, my featured links not only offer deep linking, but they also provide the addition of RSS Feeds into the listing which auto update when the feed updates. It keeps the search engine spiders coming back to my site and to the featured link listing. These are the better listings to get. So if you find cheap or free freatured listings which offer this for your site, jump on it. I actually look at the directory's pagerank, traffic, and placement in Google when I pick these types of listings. Like my top site for instance, it is number #1 in Google for several keywords, therefore I get a lot more SE traffic than other directories.
Its not about free or paid directory. It is about quality directory. Dmoz is free and Yahoo is paid. Both are very good.
