Hi. Several people here have told me that some topics, such as music, do absolutely horrible on Adsense. Is there any way to determine what kind of topics do decently? I am not talking about some get-rich-quick scheme that has 50000 web sites about it like that mesothelemia cancer, or whatever it's called. I am just looking for some ideas, I guess. thanks!
Look around you at magazines, TV, billboards etc. and see what products sellers will spend the most advertising. AdSense is just a subset of advertising.
If your music site doesn't do well, why not just move it over to more high-paying keywords, like music-related electronics, tech, etc. If you've already spent some time building up the site (I don't know how long you've been doing it) it would be a shame to abandon it completely. Remember that you're probably already in Google's SERPs and you probably already have some backlinks. Don't let the age of the site go to waste.
oh, I plan on keeping the music site regardless of the cost. I am getting 700 hits a day after only a week, which is hard to do for a music blog, so I am happy with my statistical success so far. I just feel like making a bit more than a $1 for 25 clicks. I am just talking about making a new one on top of it. thanks for the suggestions.
Yup, there you go, 700 hits a day. I'd slowly slide the site over to something involving more high-paying keywords. Again, tech stuff usually pays pretty well.
http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool/ This will give you an idea of what people are bidding as far as CPCs on keywords. Please keep in mind this is not an accurate portrayal of all bids. You should find topics that you are comfortable publishing about and not really chase after those "top paying adsense keywords." As you so eloquently put it... get rich quick scheme. You can plug in related words into the overture bid tool... and if it's returning CPC's above $0.60, you're in pretty good shape. Good Luck.
The problem with niche sites is that the same advertisers appear most of the time. I ran an education website and several big names keep popping up. However, in some cases, I still get over $1 per click. Also, another problem with niche sites is that the potential for a website is limited by the number of people with that area of interest. Though a music site doesn't sound too bad as music usually does have a universal appeal. With 700hits a day, it shouldn't be a problem to do at least $5 a day. Good luck!
