What the heck is Valid PageRank? Does it mean that the directory owner did not buy an expired domain and throw-up a directory on it?
If you say INValid pagerank, It can have different definition where applicable. 1. Expired domain, PR maintained and directory loaded. 2. Useless domain name, cashing its PR and directory loaded. 3. Invalid method toward buildings a domain's PR which has a directory loaded. So Valid pagerank would mean, Genuine, Fresh Domain, start from PR0/PR-n/a and then working toward valid methods to achieve it. and.. the opposite of the above. -- Add more....
nice input, humm. I guess it is our mission to teach all webmasters about the definition of valid pagerank for directories. weird and not brandable domain name becoming directory is the hardest part to endure, IMO. Let's keep this post alive.
Simple way to determine page rank is valid is to go to google Query info:siteurl.com <- change siteurl to whatever domain your checking. Google should return one search result - check that search result to see if the url matches the one your query was for. If it matches then the page rank is valid. There is a couple week window every quarter that this does not work. Read all about it - How to Check for Fake Page Rank
Glad I finally started a thread with some legs! I rarely submit to the multitudes of new directories. Here is what I was wondering- Do you find that those who claim "valid PageRank" in fact have an issue with their PR? Reminds me of the expression- "Thou protest too much" Am I wrong?
Invalid PR is when redirecting and masking are used to 'steal' the PR from one site to make it look like it belongs to another site. When somebody buys an expired domain with PR the PR is most likely valid but it has been earned by the backlinks from the previous owner and will be lost when those backlinks no longer point to the new site.
The same people probably start most of their sentences with "To be honest with you" By right, nobody should need to mention the validity of any pr that they have on a site.
Pipes "By right, nobody should need to mention the validity of any pr that they have on a site" Not only mentioning the validity of PR, but PR it's self. We all know that good PR helps with regards to directory promotion.
Some people buy a dropped domain with page rank, build a directory, then the Page rank drops. Valid page rank means the site has actually been up for a while and the PR came from that period. Not from a prior site.
Actually there is no such thing as Invalid PageRank Valid PageRank means there was no fake PageRank script in use.... People should not post conjecture, speculation, and contrived information, just to answer a post.
Fair enough. I'm of the school of thought that the PageRank of a directory is something best left to speak for it's self and not touted. I'm sure that some feel that they need to advertise PR and I can understand that. To me, it is a red flag when I see a directory promoted with the term "Valid PageRank". I would be uneasy if my family doctor's hanging wall degrees had a big sign next to them saying: "Valid Degree".
Invalid, Fake, Bullsh*t Pagerank...It does not matter what synonym you prefer. People can call it whatever they want in order to clarify the answer. In fact Sem-Advance, your comment is the most worthless reply on this thread because it does not address the question. And by "script" don't you mean "redirects/forwarding"??? Pagerank for a site was either earned by the current, live website aka "Valid" or a previous website with different content aka "Invalid." ---Nice answer above humm---
I take it you have more than 3000 posts and so I trust you, but I want to see an example of this, can you help?
This is actually the best advice possible helping to assist someone in finding out the truth. A simple info:domain will do the trick every time!
http://www.google.com/search?q=info:plaster.me The result should show the domain "plaster.me" but as you can see, it shows the domain "plastering.me" The reason it shows a different domain in the results is because I 301 redirected 'plaster.me' to 'plastering.me' If I had redirected it to 'google.com' before the toolbar PR update, and then removed the redirect, the domain 'plaster.me' would show Google's PR in the toolbar when visiting it. But when doing a "infolaster.me" the information for the domain would show as Google.com. Hope that makes sense. Cheers James
Tattoos- Thank you for your explanation. That technique would have the effect of showing fake pagerank. So when a directory proclaims "valid pagerank", what they are saying is, in effect, "yes the pagerank of this directory does not seem to match the quality or content of this site, but it was not obtained by 301 redirection". For those that do buy expired domains with PR to start a directory, I have a suggestion that will help you improve the quality of your site and help you maintain PR and backlinks. I would start a new thread to explain but I have plans today. I will post when I have time to respond to replies.
