Yikes ... no clue! I have some wishes, but we'll see. I think 1 or 2 of the top 5 will be people or forums that are not even wilfully competing.

How can you predict Alek will be at 3 when you don't know who will be at one and two?
    I don't see that happening.

Not when you have that much competition.

Honestly: I think a ton of people will be boxed or banned. I think there will be some serious wheating out.

Ohhh pleeeeeease! You're such a knob! Leave Smyrl alone ... she hasn't done anything but support Alek's initiative.

I would not be shocked if the charity site ranks somewhere between 1 and 5.

    Boxed? Smokin websites?

Did you see Good Morning America this morning? There was a segment on Celiac disease. Person interviewed has disease and is in med school, preesumabble at University of Maryland for theeey showed the U of M med school bldg. What the segment lacked was a mention of contest.

Yea, the CFCR Operations Director (who I just called, but she's out sick today - no surprise, as she didn't sound good yesterday) told me a few weeks ago that GMA was out there that day filming. This was just as we were discussing the SEO contest - if the timing had been better, it might have been mentioned on National TV! ;-)

I have not seen the segment (how long was it?), but I understand they were following someone around who has Celiac Disease.

Oh, Alek. You asked a question for which I have no answer. I am no judge of time. They did a segment on the disease and its symptoms; how long it took them to diagnose the girl's problem; how after girl with the disease changed her diet started feeling better in 10 days showed problems involved in shopping (the hidden gluten in so many products); mentioned fact girl was now in med school and showed front of the U of M Med school. I may have missed it but did not come away from viewing program knowing U of M was leader in Celiac research. It did say med school student would like to be part of team involved in a cure so the implication was there.

Your boys are only ones of whom I was aware had the disease. When I mentioned contest and disease to my sister wa s familiar with disease since someone she knows has it.

My sympathy goes to your wife trying to oversee diet of the boys. I know it has to be very hard to travel and eat out. She is always on duty for on those trying tiring days she always has to come through with safe food.

Oh, Frank, segment was on ABC this morning.

Thanks for the update Shannon ... this is the awareness part of the campaign that Alek is trying to bring to the fore-front. Maybe some of the others will understand the issues a little clearer!

When I realized that maybe I could parley the 15 seconds of fame for my christmas lights to help out charity, my wife and I debated who to work with. While there are a number of places doing Celiac research, our feeling was that UofM CFCR was one of the top-notch places that is especially focused on finding a cure - we already know our kids have it, so detection isn't as important to us.

BTW, awareness is REALLY significant for those people that are mis/un-diagnosed ... because it IS treatable with diet ... but you gotta know first. I won't bore you with all the war stories, but 4 days at Children's Hospital in Denver with your one-year old first-born because he has the generic diagnosis "failure to thrive" is no fun.

I gave 'em a holler, pitched 'em this crazy idea of using Christmas Lights to raise money for them, and I was fortunate that their Operations Director, Pam King, "got it" - has been a real pleasure working with he and they appreciate the $3,500+ that came from that. So I called her a few weeks before the SEO contest started, told her I had another crazy idea (but realistic chance of winning was very low), and she said couldn't hurt to try.

UofM is definately a leader in this area - they were mentioned on the front-page of the Wall Street Journal on December 9th, 2005. And yea, watching the diet is a bit of a pain in the a** ... but you get used to it after a while.

Just for the record, I would expect more sportsmanlike behaviour from SEO's.

Okay, who am I kidding, I'd expect just the same amount of acrimony and infighting I've seen in this contest or more, from SEO's.

I'm just glad that the majority of folks are doing in good fun and for good fun and nothing more.

Good post John - maybe also state over in your forums over at V7N (?)

For those interested, here's the Good Morning America article - Dr. Fasano (quoted in the GMA article) is the medical director of the Center for Celiac Research that would be the beneficiary of my contest page - some funny quotes from him in this December 6th, 2005 Washington Post article (see near bottom) including this one about me "I have to say, hats off to this fella." - I'll have to ask him if he meant white hat or black hat! ;-)
