He will most likely build a forum not for webmasters but for philosophers, but I guess each post would not be a one or two liners but pages long instead
Too many philosophy forums already out there - but yeah, that would be pretty kool if he did do that.
Well done John, you made some good money there and well done Lee Dodd who already owns some of the biggest forums around.
Though DP is much much bigger than V7N, it has only one revenue source - adsense (adcents). In terms of revenue (and diversification), I guess V7N is as good as DP (if not better). But yeh, 60k for DP is a steal. I guess he meant 600k and not 60k
True, but I guess that is because the owner of DP did not really bother to monetize the forum, a few stickies here and there and a few banners here and there, DP would be making tons of money.
Exactly.. Just because DP doesn't stick ads upon us doesn't mean there are dearth of advitisers.. With such targetted traffic, DP would at least make 40-50 K from direct ad sales, going by what the likes of john chow and shoemoney makes from direct ad sales and affiliates. There are many good spots here.. Each category can attract good sponsors.. Look at diaperswappers.com, and look at the category sponsors.. you see those in many Auto Forums as well.. similar button type sponsoprship can be used to squeeze DP by CPM and CPA.. text-link-ads, BOTW, numerous other directories, can be had on the link building categories. And those sponsors won't even be an eyesore..and if Shawn don't want to show to ads to members, there are at least a 1000 guests at any point of time on DP.. I am sure those are search engine traffic, and tend to be very conversion/click happy. Azoogle, nevrblueads and suchlike will pay to sponsor the affiliate category.. Adding a directory and having other services as v7n would be a direct competition to many members and would not serve the purpose of DP, but sponsor spots will be soldout in an hour... DP forum is better than many webmaster forums around... Starting thread on this!!
The faster a forum moves the more likely it is full of noobs asking silly questions over and over again. Or full of general chat topics. So it being slower than DP isn't a bad thing at all.
Pretty fair and realistic price tag and sold just in time. If sold one or two years ago the price would have been much higher. It's not going to be easy to give it a further boost.
So did Shawn. That's why this place turned into indiapoint (no ethnic offense meant by that just saying what everyone else calls it too) and went downhill. The admins here do an amazing job at trying to keep this place under control but it's still getting worse. It's turned into a noobfest full of people who think .info domains are awesome and believe every single snake oil ebook salesman that comes along. Still one of the best free webmaster marketplaces though. If you don't mind wading through the tons of crap.
