keep an eye on v7n from this point on...the new owner will make it big....if he has spent only 200k then he would realise he needs to spend another 200k to make it something special...and I believe he will do this...you don;t buy a 200k web site and just sit on it. I believe it is a bargain and it will become a very big site in the near future.
I agree with you, John burned out a long time ago and let it go downhill, whoever pays this amount is recognizing the potential and will live up to it!
Are you sure it sold? I talk to John often.... or at least I think I do. I love V7N regardless of who owns it.
I hang out at v7n under the same name and avatar. I've posted there more than on any other forum. I'm not sure why because it definitely has had its ups and downs over the past 2 years. But good luck to the new owners. Oh, and I already have a philosophy degree...
Well he really need to make it special when it is competing against giants in an already saturated field. This really kindles my interest in v7n, maybe I will sign up to see what developments they have
v7n is a good forum. The only negative is that most of the revenue is for directory submissions and banner ads. Seems to me that the ad sales would take a lot of effort. AdSense and affiliate revenue were something like 2.5% of total revenue for 2007.
I don't get why people sell sites as successful as this. If the revenue is (as stated) $37k/month he could have made that back in 7-8 months and would still have the site. That kind of revenue could allow you to hire someone to optimise or maintain the site while you go on a trip around the world - let alone a study degree!

I guess the one who bought it is far more anxious than you to have this change . But they need to go through the due processes of the sale, it is not a petty sale but a $220k sale.
i sold for a popular blog before for around 10k, so it's really too low. maybe right now he need money...
When you are tired of something, maybe what you really want is to get rid of it and have a change of life, a breathe of fresh air. Maybe he just want to rid himself of the troubles of running such a big forum.
IDK if you had a site that big with so many devoted visitors you'd kind of grow attached to it I think.
Well, John and philosophy, that is like a cat and a mouse. I mean, even a sheep is more open minded than that guy. However, they have got very nice mods there. One of the super moderators there actually lives close to me.
wow, I had guessed 250k.. one thing you have to take in consideration with a network like v7n, is the staff and money it takes to run the site as well It's not just all fun a games, buy the network and become rich 220k was a good buy, it will be interesting to see what happens with it now. Oh Lee D bought it... good to see a well known forum owner getting it.
I took a closer look at the sale details, apparently 50% of the site profits go back into site maintenance. Still pretty good turnover though. What do you do after studying philosophy?
