V For Vendetta

The wife and I just returned from V For Vendetta.

She almost walked out several times during the firm. I am more inured to the rubbish that Hollywood has been spewing for the last few decades and was therefore determined to suffer through to the bitter end.

As a movie, the work was below par. As a piece of propaganda, the work was excellent.

The thinly veiled story line is that George Bush blows up the World Trade Center to catalyze the populace into fearful reaction.

The story, however, is moved slightly in space and time. The place is moved to Great Britain and the time is moved a few decades into the future.

To ensure the thinness of the facade, the war in Iraq is mentioned repetitively and is even credited as the conflict where the main villian got his start. The Avian flu is also mentioned as a government plot to keep the populace living in fear. The propogandists even managed to work the word "rendition" into the script, which is no minor accomplishment.

Subplots include the murder of a character who is clearly meant to caricature Rush Limbaugh, a gratuitous attack on Catholicism in the form of a child molesting Bishop, an execution for the crime of owning a copy of the Koran, and violent beatings and exections of peaceful homosexuals.

The original graphic novel was written by Alan Moore. In Alan Moore's own words "the screenplay's rubbish."

So, pay your money and see this movie if you want to support the propaganda which this movie spreads. Don't donate your money to this cause if you do not believe that George W. Bush ordered the attack on the World Trade Centers.

Haven't seen it and don't think I will. Guess they are running out of ideas in Hollywood. I went to the video store today with my wife and the shelves were full of nothing but crao IMHO. We never rented anything.

V for Vendetta isn't a propaganda movie. Flight 93 is a propaganda movie......

V for Vendetta is a story about what has happened so many times throughout history, a small group of brave people rising up against a powerful elite.

I'm sure you'll love it. It's got knives and super-heroes and lots of people running around and getting dead. Woosh! Wap! Kapow! Bam! Boom! It's got music and explosions and bright lights and action and even a lesbian scene or two.

Thanks for the heads up. While I love history, I refused (as did many) to go see Kingdom of Heaven for the very same reason. Hollywood is losing it's ability to rewrite history, yet they complain because their overall movie sales are down

Thank God our country only has a limited supply of young angry white males with low IQs!

When I first heard V was being made, I thought it was gonna be a remake of that alien invasion series from the 80's, where the aliens were reptile people who looked human.

    Thanks for the review, Will.

Originally, I had no desire to see it. Now I know it's a "must see". :p

By falling back on controversial issues they don't have to work so hard on the storyline. It's not really anything new. After the matrix 2 & 3 they had to do something.

Its also getting good (better than I expected) reviews because of the bush bashing as well. Liberal is the new in thing to do at the box office.

That's just like with crash. I wanted to see that movie so bad but I felt like the movie was trying way to hard to be controversial once I saw it. I couldn't believe that movie got an Oscar.

I think reason why movie sales are down are because of Movie Sites like movies.yahoo.con and rottentomatoes.com. You get easy access to 30 or 40 reviews almost instantly. Word of mouth gets around pretty fast if a movie is bad now a days. Ten years ago I remember going to see an awful lot of bad movies but now I can check out the reviews on the release day and avoid most of the bad movies. That's the reason why I don't go to the theatre nearly as much as I did before.

It's also going to get much worse once the Blu-Ray and HD-Dvd formats become popular.

I wish Hollywood would create better movies, but they seem to have almost given up on that. They seem settled now into remaking old scripts with less talented actors.

I have well over 300 DVD's in my collection, but very few of them are movies made in the last ten years.

It seems that only one or possibly two movies a year are well made, and those movies often do not do well at the Oscars.

    Forget V Fantasy

    Good movies to see:

    Flight of the penguins
    Ice Age
    Big Fish

Support movies like that and skip the Hollywood trash.
