I would have moved my site to a bigger server, then slap on an Adsense banner and some CPM ads and cash in on the huge traffic. And I'll make sure to have plenty of YouTube keywords to "direct" the users to the right site. ;)

Yep they should then develop a new site on the original product. I am shocked they are not capitalizing on this. What is the CEO thinking?

Utube probably generates more revenue through selling tubes than they would otherwise generate via landing page ads.

Heard an interview with the owner of utube.com on the radio yesterday -- despite it being clear that it's not a video site -- hundreds of people everday fill out the contact form asking where the videos are....gotta love it.

It is the funniest article I read today :)

I can not belive they do not monetise the traffic they get. If I were utube, I made another site for the company and use utube.com to display cpc and cpm ads or even sell traffic :p 68m visits that is a hell of a tube traffic

That is a load off cr*p. If it was me I would be really happy with the extra traffic. I would infact have made much more than I currently am.

Also, what do companies expect you to do before you buy a domain, check that it is not similar to every other domain on the web.

It is pure stupid. Youtube most probably didn't even know the utube website existed and it is a totally different name anyway.

Well... why would a company sueing google use a google product?

They will use YPN or adCentre or adbrite.

The problem is that if they alter the site to just be a MFA relying on type in traffic then youtube may be able to sue them and take away the domain as it infringes on youtubes trademark.

As long as they keep a real site on utube youtube can't try to take it away.

If they sold utube to Rupert Murdoch he could stick myspace video on there but I guess youtube would be able to take the domain from him.

Can they really do that? I'm not a lawyer but, I think it is not possible. I mean even if they sued utube, I don't think they would have won. It's not like buying yaho.com or goole.com.... utube is a different thing. Who cares that youtube.com is a popular brand name. it's not their problem. This is just my opinion, I don't know how those things work but, it sounds crazy that they can actually file such a lawsuit....

It does sounds a little crazy, especially as I believe the utube domain was registered well before youtube.

It can still happen, but only if utube is not being used for a legitimate purpose.

Remember the guy who owned dellcomputers.co.uk or something? His name was Paul Dell and he sold computers for years and he lost his domain I believe.
