Is youtube any good for backlinks... Like posting a video and having your URL in the text beside the screen?
Definitely good. They are no-follow backlinks but that doesn't matter on many sites other than Google. Even within Google, the fact that they're clickable will get visitors to your site. The other aspect worth considering is trying to tie up the first few pages of Google rankings. As YouTube is highly ranked by Google as an authority site, there is a good chance that your video will appear on there. That pushes your competitors out, with the added advantage of possible clickthroughs.
youtube links are not live links anymore so linkwise they are worthless these days. since users cannot click on the link and visit the site anymore, youtube traffic would be lower than before as well
well youtube links are of no advantage according to link building as there are not clickable and are not considered as good links...... you can promote your video within youtube to get high traffic otherwise dont think of any help regarding links

The YouTube links in the description field are clickable. I always use this on my videos. Just put http://www.mysite.com Code (markup): at the start of the description. At the end of your video put an arrow to where the link is as a Call To Action to encourage the viewer to click the link. Be sure to leave this up for at least 30 seconds so that YouTube doesn't go to the related videos page.
Use it for visibility (traffic). Your youtube page can quite easily on certain keywords (if correctly optimized for SEO) get you on the first page and as a consequence get you some decent indirect traffic
