Guys how is this done and really is the Google KEI that important, as I realized that there are some keywords that are searched for seasonally and not consistently, so whats the right formula to use WordTracker.
What are you trying to do? Are you aiming at building a website? If so, what I like to do is : 1) get as many "root" words as possible. I do this by using the google sandbox tool, visiting related websites and looking at their meta tags, etc. 2) run each of those through wordtracker, generating tons more keywords 3) compile all of the keywords into one big pile, and then analyzing competition This usually gives me plenty of keywords to go after. I like to keep it limited to keywords with less then 50,000 competition in google. The lower the better. Matt
What Matt said. If you ask me, the free version of wordtracker isnt very accurate at all. If you have no money for a wordtracker subscription this is what I use: www.seodigger.com I get a list of urls from my competition and put them into seodigger. Seodigger provides a list of all the keywords used to find my competition. Out of those I scale them by WT highest to lowest and pick out the ones that are 4 or more keywords in length. Out of those I analyze which would be easy to rank for using allintitle: and allinanchor: google tags. In this method, I hunt long tail for quick rank AND rank for the keywords of my competition. Double whammy if you ask me.
Wordtracker recommends, actually, 30k or less competition with 100+ visitors. I try to balance it out though like.. if I see a site with 45k comp but 6000 visitors, I think it's ok but if a site has 45k comp and 400 visitors... I wouldn't think twice about it.
I've been exploring wordtracker tool and concluded that the KEI is not really that all important, if you're confident of leading the competition with your SEO efforts. The one that is important, in my humble opinion, is the number of searches. Of course, the competition matters as well, but it all boils down to your confidence level of performing better than your competition. If the competition is 30k or less, it should be fine.
