I created a script which i am going to sell, basically it's advanced WordPress plugin. I have came up with a image for it but i am not sure if it's ok to use it. It looks like this Obviously without the "DEMO" text. Now i want to create virtual product box (ie. something like that http://http://www.blendables.com/newspress/files/product_images/Blendables_Essentials_BoxShotWhite.jpg and my questin is: - Can i use image i created in a product box? - If not what do i need to change in order to use it legally? - Can i use this image as a logo?
You'll need to contact Wordpress, just a PM to the administrator via their forums will get you an answer. Normally an open-source script company will allow it, making sure you give credit to them and promote their product, which you are already as your plugin can only be used on wordpress
Simplest thing that you can do is to read up their terms and conditions send an email to a MOD or a manager and you'll have your answers within no time, but the best way is to simply send an email to the legal dept you can look it up on the website for wordpress =]
Just because something is open sourced does not mean you can use the trademarked logo. I know most open sourced projects are pretty good about letting you do what you are asking OP. Open Source just means that the source code isn't encrypted so you can modify it, such as what the OP is doing.
Like i said before, just ask for permission, im quite sure they wont mind letting you use it IF you ask
Yes, sicking a permission to do this should do the task. I am sure they are not going to deny it as it is related to them and ultimately going to market their product indirectly.
Their forums don't do PMs and the moderators there aren't officially connected with Automattic so that would be moot. Contact link: http://automattic.com/contact/ Contacting them would be best. They allow use of the logo on sites but 1) you have to be marketing and licensing whatever you;re doing as GPL and 2) you have to kiss Matt's ass as well. For reference, they have previously gone after folks for using wordpress in the url as well but there are hundreds in not thousands of domains out there that use the word wordpress in their url. They only go after the ones who missed step #2 up there. http://wordpress.org/about/domains/
