Using Wordpress just for comments without a blog?

    Hi Guys,

My website is not a blog, but I was thinking of using Wordpress to allow readers to post comments on some my pages.

I was wondering if someone could steer me toward a help page or tutorial that details how I can integrate Wordpress' functions into regular web pages.

    Any help is appreciated!

Use a custom post template and strip out the code that displays the post content, but not the comment code

Set up a forum, and at the end of the article put a link going to a thread created just for the discussion of that post.

I have several websites that act as portals to my forums. On these portals, I have disabled comments and do not allow new members to register. At the end of the article I provide a link to a thread in the forum and says something like - "if you wish to comment on this article, then visit forum." - or something along those lines. I try not to use the same exact comment about the forums every time.

And in the long run, forums are great to keep your members coming back. I might visit certain websites once or twice a month. But I visit certain forums almost daily - because I know there will be new content.

This is great advice. Much simpler than using WordPress and gets the job done just the same.

    Your welcome.

For an example, here is my sons site I put together for him. The landing page is built with wordpress

    http://www.fortresstraining.com/

And here are the forums, which uses the SMF forum software- http://www.fortresstraining.com/forum/

Comments have been disabled in Wordpress, and where the replies should go under the articles - the templates have been edited to remove the "Comments have been disabled" message. New memberships has also been disabled on the wordpress site.

The SMF forum and the wordpress site are not bridged. So if I update one or the other, there is no chance of breaking the bridge - because its not there.

Each site works separate but equal from each other, and both sites share the same database. So I just back up one database and I am done.

This may not have been "exactly" what you are looking for, but it was the only solution I could come up with.

    Thanks Kev,

These are some great suggestions that make a lot of sense. Something to seriously consider for my site!
