Using Wordpress for a high content site

I've used Wordpress in the past on websites that look more like sites that blogs, if that makes sense. I'm working on a new news based site that would have a number of sections, similar to something such as bbc.co.uk.

Has anybody got experience of using WP for something that is so heavy on content? Is there a reliable way of using WP to run something like this?

Any help, examples, recommendations etc appreciated.

    use magazine style themes...

you can easily customize the theme and behind the scenes write the content under respective categories...

use those categories for the different sections of the news being displayed on your homepage..

do not have a blog like page and turn off the comments if you really want to make it like a news site!!

be very cautious while choosing the magazine style theme..sometimes the looks can be confusing for the readers..

I don't want to use a WP theme. I want to be able to use WP's capabilities to drop it into an existing layout. I've done it in the past, but found it a real pain using multiple versions of WP for various areas of the website, rather than using one install and spreading it across the site.

YOu can do it you'll just have to remove the front "posts page", for example, and have various pages that only display content for certain "categories". That's how I'd finagle around it.

So, if I had say 10 categories, are you saying I could have a front page to the whole site showing these categories?

Bumping this up. I've spoken to a couple of people about them doing the job, but nothing in concrete yet. Is anybody interested in taking what should be a fairly simple and quick CMS/PHP type job?

    Hi

Why don't you use joomla instead? With 1000s of components, modules and plugins, and free GPL templates that you can customize easily, you can have probably anything you want on it.

    Cheers

BP77, have you tried elance and all of those other freelancing sites? You'll get a big range of prices that you can choose from with a job like this.

IMO, I wouldnt bother with joomla. Probably because I can't stand Joomla, though :) The code like a garbage can that is overfilled and spilling on to the floor.

I've already got a layout put together. Is it possible to drop that into Joomla somehow? (or is there anybody capable of doing that?)
