    Hey..

I'm using wordpress for a site that I own,

basically as an example, let's say i want to get to first page for Download iTunes

so I make blog post about Download iTunes, and I try and do good on page optimization, and get anchored back links to that exact page.

But I feel like Google considers it dead because it is not being updated...

    what do you guys think..

how do i get around this?

it wil lbe the same for a site and a blog if not updated regularly. one good thing about WP blog is that once you make a post, it goes to the index page giving your blog not only an extra page but fresh content for the main page as well. schedul a calander and try tp post on a regular basis. atleast one post per week at the minimum

Will be hard to get ranked on page #1.
The keywords are hot "download" and "itunes" and it;s impossible to outrank Apple with it, and other competitors when you have a simple site with no updates.
That's not about Wordpress by the way ;)

Updating a site frequently with fresh content doesn't affect your rankings directly. It simply makes the search engines crawl your site more frequently. They try to find a balance between their crawl rate and your content generation rate. If everytime they crawl your site they see 20 new pages that weren't there before, they are going to likely come back sooner the next time.

This means your pages get indexed faster which "might" mean (if you're one of the first writing about a particular topic) that you have a better chance of ranking well for a while... and for that reason for some brief period to possibly get a few natural inbound links.

But in general, for most sites all that "freshness" does is make them crawl you more frequently. Pages that haven't been changed in years frequently rank at position 1.

I agree with this, its not about wordpress. The keywords you are targeting for ranking are much too competitive to rank for.
