Using Wordpress and Blogger to Increase Main Page and Catch the Long Tails

I plan to use a wordpress blog and a blogger blog for each of my niche websites. With each post, I want to have an anchor back to my main page.

I plan to post content to them weekly.

In time, I feel they will nicely rank for many longtails, due to their long pages full of content.

    Am I correct on this?

I am just wondering -- do I need to use a wordpress plugin to make it suitable for SEO, or do I simply post away?

Lastly, if I have a keyword-specific article with each wordpress/blogger post, is it ok that I have 1-2 anchor text outbound links to my sales page with each post? Or does this look bad?

Also -- do I post in PAGES on Wordpress or simply just POST each time?
    Does it matter?

You could rank well for them. In fact, long tail search terms (well, the right ones anyway) can rank pretty well in a short period of time and can help sustain your organic SEO campaign while you wait for the heavy artillery (your primary keywords) to start ranking well.

As for pages and posts, that's going to depend. I tend to use the Pages feature for static style pages such as the about page, products/services, contact, and so forth. The posts feature tends to get used for news, blog entries, and such.

    Ok thank you.

So what is the advantage of wordpress over blogger? is it the fact that wordpress makes a unique 'page' for each post?

What about Wordpress plugins for SEO?. Are they needed?

WordPress is extensible, for starters. If you want to use it as a blog, you can do so. Need a CMS? WordPress can handle that too. You can also create your own Themes and Plugins as well, which can extend the functionality of WordPress far beyond that of Blogger.

And yes, some of the SEO Plugins for WordPress are needed. The others are optional.
