I was not sure if typing those words would violate obscenity rules on dp so for clarification the non slang word is defecate. If I have the word "sh**" or "cr**" in my website's domain name will I find the site harder to market and SEO and harder to monetize? Will adsense even let me put ads there? It is a sort of a tradeoff I presume. I should be able to attract a lot more first time visitors just based on the shock value of that word. The theme of the website will also be a kind of "info shock" where you knock people off their feet with some astounding blogs or articles. Obviously this is not porn, and it is not targetted hate material either though some people may find it offensive. I wouldn't quite label it "adult content" either since feces is quite openly talked about. Has anyone dealt with making a site of this nature and are there any tricks here or is it simply as much of a hot potatoe to deal with as a xxx adult site would be?
I would consider it middle ground. Its not going to be categorized as bad as a porn site if its not porn, but you're going to be automatically disqualified if a potential viewer has some kind of content filter installed (at a school, at a place of work, even at home in some circumstances). I say try it. Whats the worst that would happen? You'd have to change the domain name down the road, thats about it...
Now why would you do that anyway? You may want to play it safe, by getting the advertisments in place first, waiting for the search engines to get you indexed, and THEN putting in subdomains with those words. As ads, put the subdomain links on the homepage that doesn't have the profanity in the url. But, again, wait until the ads are all in place, and you are approved. Besides, subdomains can work just as well as domains.
1.Well adsense do not allow profanity to be on domains/pages you place their ads on. 2.You may be able to get links from similar theme websites, but it will be harder to get links from normal websites, unless you happen to have something extremely newsworthy/shocking on your site to get links from blogs.
Yeah, being outside of the mainstream makes it much tougher to get ads, unless you're targeting a particularly profitable niche.
Shock value. To make it stick in their heads. It is an idea that has gotten in my head recently to use this word to make things more "casual" and stand out from the rest of the sites in the niche that I plan this for. I see what you are saying. This puts me out of the "decent" market and in the same category as hate, porn and even warez. Well the worse that can happen is adsense goes nuts and bans my entire account? Maybe instead of advertising on it I could use it as a "launch pad" with dozens of links to nich blogs and niche articles on a secondary domain? Hmmm. Maybe make it a two step click process, have nothing but my own link advertising on the entire site and have it link to my other domains(which I buy a decent name for) where I will have adsense as well as more decent marketing methods working for me as well as the SH** domain site.
Yeah I get the point however it adds a lot of typing to the whole url. Hmm...but I guess it is the only way out.
