The way I understand it, I should not use the words "and" or "or" in any of my titles unless it is needed. I have read in several ebooks that using the "|" or a "-" to replace the word "and" is good practice. Is it? Examples: Trees and shrubs --> Trees | Shrubs Flag and Medal Cases --> Flag Cases | Medal Cases
I do it like this: Company Name Inc. | keyword keyword & keyword Code (markup): It works very well for me
i dont think it effects seo. However my personal preference is to use - as i think it looks better especially as browser such as IE use "- Windows Internet Explorer" after the title of a webpage.
The preferred method which gets the best results will be: <title>PRIMARY KEYWORD – SECONDARY KEYWORD – BRAND</title> For example: <Title>SEO Book - Search Engine Optimization Book - New SEO Book</Title> A keyword is just that, and should not contain "and" "an" etc. The description metatag should then include the primary keyword in a compelling sentence about the page contents. The meta keywords tag (not read by Google anymore) should only contain keywords which appear on the page. Note: I mention the word "Page" a lot because each "page" should have its own unique metadata. Cheers Pommy www.newseobook.com
I think its a personal preference for most of the Webmasters. I don't think this will affect the SERP by much..
yes it is true that you should not go in for "and" and other such terms like this in the title tag. I only use "|" in the title tag and would recommend this symbol to everyone.
i use [primary-keyword] - [secondary-keyword] | site-url.com works fine for me on most of my websites.
If you want to feature your brand (Which is the most powerful thing online) then you put it first. HOpefully it's short enough. If not, put it somewhere in the title. I use - or |. Never do i use | in normal text cause who uses the pipe? Nobody.
i use | as my divider and - if i'm elaborating whats the meaning of the first set of words... in my experience,, it doesn't affect my SERPs of what you want to use as long as you know that it isn't for keyword stuffing...
Its definitely a personal preference. Most of the time I'll use | but sometimes I'll do something like: Keyword | Keywords1, keywords2 & keywrods3 It just depends...
I think most a lot of people are going off of outdated information when they read that "and" / "or" / "&" are "stop characters". Maybe in the past when algorithms were much more "crude" these characters or words may have caused a problem, but now that the algorithms are much "smarter" I can't see them having a problem with it. So, I dont think this is an issue at all anymore. One of the biggest reasons I use | or - or : or whatever to separate keywords is to allow more of the title to appear in the SERPs. However, with some big Corporate clients who are very picky about copy, I still use "and" / "or". I've never been penalized for using any of the above tho. Not to my knowledge at least
I use "|", rarely "-". There is no relative diffrence between the two, it's just my personal preference.
