Using the adwords tool properly.

    Hello.

I am new to the whole PPC thing and I just wanted to confirm that I am using the Google AdWords tool correctly.

    1. I typed in the keyword "airline".
    2. Chose the data to be displayed as "Cost and Position Estimates".
    3. USD $10.00

Is it now fair for me to say that I will be in the top 1-3 of search results and the Cost Per Click for my add based on the Airline keyword is $1.69?

    You're using this?

Keyword volume and price estimates are pretty worthless. If want the real deal run a campaign for a day or two with a small budget to see what reality will be like.

Yes that is what I am using. Are those estimates extremely out of whack with what is to be paid? I mean it does seem rather expensive, I was just wondering how close it is.

The only real gauge is to start a campaign...that is what I have done in the past.

Check out Guy From Chicago's blog...a fine read for you to understand better how to translate or use the PPC tools.

The issue with keyword estimate tools is they can't take a lot of things into consideration...your ad copy & QS being two huge issues with AdWords estimates.

For me, I've seen the estimation tool off by multiples of 10X.

Thank you guys very much for your input. I was already reading that blog and it is a good read.

Is there an estimate anywhere on what business's pay for some of the most commonly used keywords? Or any experience as to the highest you know about?

So are you now talking the reverse? Trying to find what AdSense ads will pay by looking at the AdWords tool?

If so, the two don't really correlate. I mean, you can get a rough-rough-rough idea of keywords' worth with the AdWords tool. Like, you'll find that running AdSense ads centered around "VOIP" pay better than "antique plow implements." That type of thing.
