Using subdomains to promote different offers

I was wondering if this is a good idea. I just got a nice short 5 letter domain and I was planning on creating subdomains for each offer I want to promote. Is this ok? I didn't feel like buying a new domain for each product I wanted to promote, so I wanted to try this out. For example if I wanted to promote credit cards I would just create a creditcards. subdomain onto the main domain, creditcards.domain.com

Will this work ok with search engines and all that? Let me know if you've had a bad experience promoting this way.

I'm curious of this also. I don't want to have to buy a new domain just to test out a new offer.

I haven't try this, but I can't see why that would be a problem for search engines. More subdomains means also more content and content is a king. Just make a good way to conect all together on front page. Just don't have empty front page.

I see some of the biggest names in affiliate marketing doing that. If it works for them, why wouldn't it work for you?

If your promoting on PPC I would say no, you'd be better off buying separate domains, but it also depends on the domain name. Users tend to click relative url more often, I think you'd be better off with a .info domain for only $0.99 from godaddy.com (and even cheaper with coupon codes) that way you can get a domain that actually relates to the product you're promoting
