im saying if I start a dog website and want to target the whole dog niche and made a website called dogsuppliesonline.com. Now I would have some good info pages but have a sub domain for each category like feal collars, dog food, ebooks etc. Im saying can I target a certain keyphrase like " I want to buy dog collars" just as well with a sub domain as I could with a regular index page domain? Im just thinking for the future, I need to have a site that has already gotton out of the sandbox. Anyone ever done this, im just worried with sub domains I cannot target certain key phrases as good with regular domains.
Subdomains should not be used for such category splitting. One thing I must point out here is that subdomains are almost treated as a separate domain (though not completely). So you will have to do separate link building for each subdomain to rank well. But on the contrary if you stick with just one domain without any subdomains, you have to do link building just for your main domain. As a solution to your problem, I suggest use subfolder structure and also learn how to do url-rewrite. eg. dogfood.domain.com (not good) domain.com/dog-food/index.html (excellent for SEO) I hope I am making a point here
well heres the thing, I just bought a domain called www.ebookladder.com and I was going to target niches with sub domains. The whole purpose of this site was to build a site that was broad but on a subject that I could still target any niches. So I sale ebooks, www.ebookladder.com/dogtrainingebook.com I optimize this sub domain for the word dog training ebook etc. I know I could have to get back links for the sub domain correct? I dont know, its just frustrating to have to deal with the sandbox mode every time I wanna make a new ebook site that targets a niche. What do you think? Also sub domains are almost as good as regular domains for SEO?
