hey there people, I've landed a nice internship with a period of about 3 months. The compagny I will be working is a media compagny. I will be doing marketing and stuff for their website. This is a website for people owning a business, or people who want to start a business. One of my assignments (next to the daily work that should be done) is to think of ways how to generate visitors trough social networks and alike, for example Myspace, Twitter, LinkedIn, Hyves (Dutch ^^), etc. Any nice bright ideas on this subject?
dude, just be a "REAL" person. that's mean don't pitch your social network followers/friends/customers (whaterver you call them) at the begining. So, start networking with them (share jokes, ideas, be helpfull...), after when you establish a bond with your network you can pitch/sell them your product. but, Always provide informations and content even when you want to sell them. that's mean "teach them". be patient.
If you start building a community around your fan pages and networks you will see good traffic. Good Luck.
This might not be the best pratice but it works: You can write a list of good tips, news and ads with link to your site. Then write or use a twitter bot to send those messages every 1 hour. That will increase the traffic to your site BUT it will increase also the bounce rate.
Sorry, but I feel the same way. If you are getting paid for a job that you have to learn to do by asking around on DP, you are completely lost. You are going to need better help and lots more of it.
Building traffic through social networking sites takes a long time. You have to build friendships, provide useful info and not spam ever 5 minutes. Even then, you will not get a lot of people coming to your site from social networks unless you offer something that is very unique (basically no other site has it which is rare nowadays) and free works most of the time If you think about it, why people visit social networking sites? To communicate with friends and family and other interesting people, not to be bombarded with ads. This is why Facebook and other sites like Twitter have hard time making money through advertising.
