Sitemap are very usefull if your site have dinamic pages; if it's all html and everything is properly linked the sitemap is not mandatory.

Are you using any publishing platforms for you site like Wordpress for example? If so you can take advantage of many available plugins that will generate the sitemap automatically for you.

Sitemaps, are pretty much links to every page on your site, as a back up if your site architecture doesn't link to every page, so that the google bot can find every page and index it.

For large sites they also start being important because content can easily become in accessible especially with movement and changes.

Install sitemap plugin, that is the easiest way to create the sitemap, assuming you're using wordpress you can use this plugin.

Sitemaps give the search engines a road map to index your deeper pages that spiders wouldn't normally find. Create your sitemap at one of the websites mentioned in this thread, submit it to the search engines and wait. You should see your site properly indexed within a few days or weeks.

    Cheers!

I think two sitemaps are necessary.

One is for humans, the other is for spiders (for now mainly Googlebot but it is reasonable to expect that other crawlers will join the club shortly).

In that relation it is necessary to clarify that having two sitemaps is not regarded as duplicate content. In 'Introduction to Sitemaps', Google explicitly states that using a sitemap will never lead to penalty for your site.
