using seo tools to check search engine rankings! risky?

I hear that your not supposed to use automated tools to check your rankings on search engines.

is this true? and if so can you be penalised in your serp's positioning etc?

I don`t think you`ll have any problem
You could be penalized if you use automatic tools for backlinks or this kind of stuff....I think

if u use different proxy and search ur rankings and also click on ur link then it may hurt ur weblink

 

Yeah.. I think checking rankings by using seo tools can't get banned your site. I also with digital29, you can be penalised if you used tools for back linkiing..
