Hi everyone, I would like to know the best method of choosing keywords? Currently, I ran a few tools to determine what the top 5-6 sites in google for my niche and i'm using those keywords...considering these top sites were successfuly with them. Is this a good approach? Thank You
If you are talking about choosing keywords for your metatags, don't spend too much time on this step. The search engines don't really look at this tag anymore. Choosing good keywords helps you decide what to use for your link anchor text, as well as which keywords to use throughout your site. You should read some seo tutorials about link development and link anchor text. Your signatures links would be much more useful if you used anchor text instead of just the domain name. You could get an extra boost for the keywords you use for the links.
I have just briefly anwered this question on another thread... see this topic Certainly do not try and compete directly with the top ranking sites for your niche straight away... try and locate keyphrases with a good search volume that do not have a multitude of optimised competitors... Hope this helps...
Your website says "Results are from Google suggestions." - then why should someone use your website? Moreover, your keyword searching tools need more improvisation .... I have checked the results. I think best results come using the following: 1. Research on competitor's keywords and make a list 2. Use Keyword tools for search less competitive or long tail keywords 3. Do Step 1 & 2 again until you are satisfied about the results. For Keywords tools, I personally use Google Adwords Tool, Google Trends, SEO Quake Toolbar, Wordtracker ... etc.
Sure it's a good idea. That is exactly what I do when researching keywords for PPc) But, as others have mentioned, you still need to do your keyword research to see how competitive the keywords are. You would also want to find out how many backlinks that site has before making your final decision. Zeek
