I had this happen once, here's the short story.

    1. I bought someone from a site , they say it'll be emailed right away (or if nothing else, max wait time like 24 hours).

    2. The email doesn't come through within 24 hours

    3. I write the web master several times , a few of which I tell them to cancel my order.

    4. I underfinance the paypal account so they can't get paid.

    5. Over a week later the web site sends the (poor) product.

    6. Pay pal gets mad I couldn't pay.

    7. I explain the situation to pay pal.

    8. Pay pal locks my account.

I was not happy at all.

So basically someone compromised your paypal account. Its not usually paypal's fault if someone gets their hands on your password is it?

You can actually sabatague someones paypal account and foce an auto freeze. It is quite eays to do which is why I dont recommend paypla for any business.

I've never had any problems with Paypal. I have heard some bad stories though, but nothing out of the ordinary.

This is very true. The majority of online businesses would be extremely limited if PayPal was not available. Although the service has flaws, in my opinion it is the best option currently available.

PayPal is a very important tool for any online business. I think they would be far more successful if they allowed payments for "adult" goods. That's where I had my only problem with them - I tried bending the rules, I got caught, and they closed my account! Nobody's fault but my own.

    Brian,

I really like your attitude about your situation. At least you can admit that you tried to get around their TOS. I wish more DP members could do this when they get banned from AdSense :)

Fraudulent activity.... I own a web host and get fraud payments. Paypal always takes care of it and refunds the buyer(real buyer). I don't get in trouble. But when you participate in it you can. Paypal is not evil, people are stupid. What alternative does PayPal have other than suspending access if fraud activity is suspected. This is generally for newer accounts....

  You obviously do little checkout business because if you did you would hate CC alot more than Paypal. Paypal is the easiest and most profitable transaction payment system. They protect their buyers very well and sellers have protection to. If your going to curse paypal at least provide some reasons.
