Using .ORG for commercial purpose

I would like to know the issues on using .ORG domain for commercial purpose...

    1. Do search engines rate .org less than .com and .net?
    2. Any other issue that we might face later?
    3. Is it possible to register it for commercial use?

I have a .org site freewebsitereport.org, appreciate your thoughts and experience on this...

Worst case, I might have to make my site open and free, its free already :) who knows what kind of traffic I might get in near future (dream....) :)

I believe that it is possible to register a .org for commercial purposes. I dont think there will be other issues to face on a later stage. Finally I believe that if you optimize your .org appropriately, you will be capable of competing with the .com or .net within search engines without problems.

I agree with Radamanto. With proper optimisation .org is good as any other domain.
Interesting thing is that for some time, my clients asked only for links from .org domains (like they where even better then .com)
Probably because .org was for some time unavailable to non-business/organizatios owners.

if the .co and .net are not available,
    and they are parked,
i would recommend you register the .org. ;)

Yes, you can use .org for business purpose with no issues. And from my experience, .org have a good SERP than .net, but both are good too :) just go with com/org/net when you register new domain :) info is good too, but you need to work more harder to gain better SERP

    1. Do search engines rate .org less than .com and .net?
    -No
    2. Any other issue that we might face later?
-No, but people find .com domains easier to remember, and some value them better than .org. Imo, if the name is good, I wouldn't care at all if it's .org if .com isn't available.
    3. Is it possible to register it for commercial use?
Yes, I know many .org sites that earn a lot.

I usually target .com domains, regardless of use, but I don't find it fatal to use an .org replacement. Currently, my sites are all .com except http://whatishacking.org :)
