Hey all We're finally switching to a new mail server here and I gots some questions if you please. We used to run a linux box for our mailserver and are in the process of switching to Mac OSX 10.3 server for mail. When we make the switch, supposedly the plan is to upp to filemaker pro 7 server/client and get the corresponding version of optigold. My question is: What're you guys out there using for protocols to communicate between Optigold Client machines and the mac OS10 servers? Presumeably we could just use Applescript, or if need be we could write some SSH scripts, but is there a way to have it all work automagically? Also...there's currently only 2 client machines that connect to the mail server. The other thing we're looking at is how/if we can get a 3rd client with XP Pro SP2 to connect. What protocol might you recommend for communicating between the WinXP machine and the OS10 server? Thanks as always -Chris
Optigold ISP uses FileMaker's protocol (port 5003) to communicate to the database server. Optigold ISP does not support FileMaker 7.
Hi Shawn, I don't think we're on the same page... The attached image shows where I'm referring to. // my first time attaching an image to the DP forums, if it doesn't show up correctly the image is hosted here as well: http://www2.innevi.com/~chris/opti_sshot.jpg
What event type are you using? If they are any of the events below the line in that drop-down list, they are going to only work on Mac clients with Mac servers.
Provided the client running FileMaker/executing the Server Event has a command-line SSH client capable of passwordless-auth, I would use SSH. OS X can certainly handle this. I typically use Command Line events and then specify the full SSH connection string..
Well, yea SSH is always an option, and everything we're doing is definetely capable of SSH, but I was trying to get a feel for the "plug-n-play" style of things. For instance... the lower half of the list of protocols there (from what I can tell) is more aimed at OS/9; like rumpus. When we upgrade, that list would seemingly change. I was kinda hoping to get a heads up from someone who's already using a setup like we will be to see what protocols they were using. Sorry if my question was a little vague Shawn: That's not the event types list, it's the protocols list. But I can certainly list u the event types we're using
... All things considered; Since the plan is to get the XP machine into the mix now too, we'll probly just have to stick with SSH =/
