Hey! My blog's homepage http://www.freipodsetc.co.uk is the page with the most page rank. There are only a few other pages which I care about being high in the search engines. Would it be a good idea for me to put nofollow to all the ones I don't care about? As in, would the nofollow cause enough of a difference to stop PR leaking to pages I am not interested in? Such as the tags pages on the homepage. I don't really want PR leaking out to those pages as they don't get much traffic? Also, will simplifying the content on my homepage change the SERPs much? By this I mean removing a lot of the content to make it a lot simpler? I can keep keyword density the same. Another thing, I've seen directory submission services listed in the BTS section. Are these worth doing? Heard a lot of things about how directories are not mattering so much to google these days? Any more tips on my site would be great, cheers once again guys. Cheers
Nofollow will not pass PR to the linked page. If you nofollow all the links to a particular page on your site and it has no external links, the page will drop to PR0. If Google previously found the page, it will stay indexed.
Don't think you read my post. I meant using Nofollow so that other MORE IMPORTANT pages get the PR the UNIMPORTANT ones are getting.
PageRank will flow to the followed links. If you nofollow some pages, more PageRank will be available to flow to the remaining pages.
Why bother? Just focus on getting more external links pointing to your pages. Also, if you're using HTML for your menu (as you should if you're not) those pages will be providing PR to your more important pages anyway. As the old saying goes, a part of nothing is still nothing. So take the free "votes" and let the PR go to those pages so they can be recycled throughout your site.
Do you think I should spend more time getting links to the individual posts or will links to the mainpage be enough to get the individual page ranks up? Cheers man
Promote the pages you want. If all goes well, the other pages will start to acquire PageRank (from other pages within your site) if the links were written in HTML.
You are better off directly promoting your important pages rather than promoting your homepage and counting on PageRank flowing to your important pages. Varying the link text to your important pages will also improve your chances of ranking for those keywords.
