It depends on the name. In most cases .com is the better option especially if the domain name is intended to be accessed via direct navigation.
If .com is unavailable for your preferred domain name, go for .net. It isn't that bad. I have a few .net domains. One of the sites is in my sig
If you would like to use the website for commercial use, then choose .com. On the other hand, if you would like to use it for individual use, then choose .net.
.com should be your first choice (brandability, popularity). However, from a SEO point of view, domain name extension doesn't matter.
Clearly depends on the visitors you want to attract ( i think): -if for example you making a games website, so targeting children, you clearly have to use a .com because of popularity - if you are making, for example, a webmaster forum, use a .net you are more likely to find a better available domain name
That is the problem, when it comes to really good names it's more likely you can't go with the dot.COM so you next choice is dot.NET Remember that NET is associated to Network and if your site is network-related even best.
.com is always the number 1 choice. .net feels like you got their second. Also, if you ever want to sell the domain in the future, the .com extension is worth 10x to any other TLD.
HI If you can afford the .com of the domain buy it over the .net , but if all you can afford is the .net of the domain then go for it. Thanks Tom
The main difference is that you will lose some traffic to the .com & also, .net names are worth a lot less than a .com
always go with .com because if someone is randomly typing in url's they will type in .com not .net but if you have to go with .net but i would not recommend it. I wouldn't recommend going for a .net over a .com, .com is here to stay
The best is .com, because it is more popular, and most common case people type .com in the url adress of a website if they didn't visited the website before
Most of the people even doenst know that there are domain names like .net, .info, etc i told to open my website to one of my uncle , DontLaugh.Info but they did DontLaugh.info.com !!!! Here .Com makes the difference else both are same
.COM is valued as a premium domain, and why wouldn’t it be? There are many different variations of which the value of these two will be judged, are you going to do domain flipping or are you going to create a blog and plan to post quality content to it frequently? The .COM would generally beat the .NET in terms of people looking to purchase domains, it is statistics but in realism it doesn’t make any actual difference of the domain extension .NET and .COM, do you look at site content and ultimately judge it by its domain extension being a .NET or .COM? I hope that helped you get an idea of how things are processed. The .COM is a general/generic domain extension. Not so much for the .NET, it came tumbling after the big boom of the dot com and that hindered the now of how people look at stuff, you can say psychology plays a role here.
