Using META Description, but not META keywords?

I'm using the META Description on one of my websites, as I want a certain text to show on Google as description of my website. However, I'm not using any META Keywords. I wonder if it is a problem? - using META Description and not using META keywords? Maybe I could add some keywords, but I have read on a SEO forum that both META Description and Keywords are not needed anymore.

No there is no problem while using meta description without use of keywords, actually google's crawler is preferring only title and meta description not meta keywords. So do not worry about Meta keywords.

I think it's important to have quality meta description because the search engine use this part as a snippet or brief summary of your site in the search engine rankings.

That META description, along with the page title, is your opportunity to add some marketing, some call to action, to your search engine entry. It is more powerful than the page title as that needs to be optimised for the key search terms you are targeting. The META description can say whatever you like and it won't affect your ranking.

You will always hear differing opinions with regards to meta keywords and description. Some will say they are not important while others say they are. My opinion on this would be that if the option is there to add meta tags then add them. It won't do your site any harm if they are not needed but it could if they are.

Google does not consider the meta keywords anymore or you can say that meta keywords have very less important now, any how description tag is still very important because it tell the search engine about your page, so Title and Description tags are the most important one.

Meta description has value and you should use some keyword on description but not spam. meta keyword has no value but if you want to use so no harm . You can use Meta Keywords. like SEOMOZ not using meta keyword but using description.

Thank you all for your advice. I have decided to use the META description to market my website better in the search results - to possibly attract more clicks (I'm also using my keywords in it), but as you say that there is no need to use the META keywords, I'm not going to use them.

According to google they are not using the keyword meta tag in their algorithm. So there's no need of using it.
