I am interested using song lyrics as a domain name for example the songs lyrics are ..... "thoughts and images control me"

My research has led me to believe thoughtsandimagescontrolme.com would be a no go. But could I use imagesandthoughtscontrolme.com ?

Well, (I am NOT a Lawyer) song titles and book titles are Not subject to copyright. Short snippets and excerpts can be used under the USA Fair Use code. However, if the phrase is also Trade Marked, then you may have to defend your legal right to use it.

This is why God created Lawyers.

Please see the Fair Trade references at www .copyright .gov
    and Google search fair+use+copyright+quoting+title+lyrics

Bottom line: OK to use a song title; OK to use a short excerpt (undefined in the Copyright Act - so subject to potential litigation), if the excerpt or title is not also Trade Marked.

There are additional considerations if you plan to use the lyric excerpt specifically for commercial gain.

    Here's what I'd do...

I would register the domain name and its variations.
Then register a blog at a hosted blog platform like bloggger or wordpress or typepad and name it thoughtsandimagescontrolme .blogger .com
    make a couple of posts.

Next, contact the songwriter/copyright holder and say how much their lyric means to you and is it ok to use as your site title and refer them to your blog.

    Good luck!
