One of the fastest ways for generating a lot of backlinks is to create a piece of link bait. Link bait is something that creates a lot of buzz and causes others to want to link to the article. I have been playing around with the link bait idea, but have not had much luck. Does anyone have any tips or examples of link bait that worked for you?
To be honest, my whole product is link bait! Although you can try and create individual pieces of link bait - like a cool video, a nice blog post about something, a great how-to showing people how to do something brilliant - it flops more often than it succeeds. The best ways to do link bait are either: 1) Repeatedly try and try again - in the case of a blog that would be regularly adding consistently high quality content. There may not be one post that goes viral, but everyone will find something different to like and the blog as a whole becomes link bait. Eventually, with enough readers, it gets easier and easier to bait links. 2) Produce a product that works as linkbait - if what you're giving away is great, then people will link to it. Examples would be some really cool web app, or downloadable software etc - look at any 'fremium' or 'ad-supported' service for an example of that. Fremium makes fantastic linkbait.
IMO link bait is difficult to make... it makes it sound like a can of worms... but really... it seems like there is a lot of creativity and intuition involved... oh well.
Provide some important articles relevant enough and a useful guide. Create polls and provide some pdf documents that can be downloaded. You can also try to get links by informing the webmaster of any broken link that exists on his site.
Link bait is an SEO term for creating something that people want to link to. It is the best way to get links because it is so natural. The search engines want links to be given for something worth linking to not merely as a promotional tool. Enticing people to link to you because of the value you are providing is right in line with their webmaster guidelines and because of this, these types of links are often the most valuable.

I'm trying the Fremium link bait idea on my website. I'm giving away free ebooks and pre-written articles with reseller rights, hoping that people will link back to me. See for yourself here: http://www.onefree.co/websitefreebies/websitefreebies/free-ebooks-reseller-rights.html It's an example of linkbait, to answer the OPs question
Link bait is one of the best ways to get clean, natural links, however it requires a lot of time and work to make it happen!
You can use even an article as a link bait. The article should be worth linking. Then blogger will link to your article.
