I'm a bit confused on the subject of using keyword domains to drive traffic to a website. I have seen some competitors that have been out there for years and Google doesn't seem to have a problem with them. What I'd like to know specifically is, is it against anyone's "rules" to use a keyword domain for driving traffic to a site. Just a simple page with a link. Is this considered a doorway page? No keyword cramming and the like.
having the keyword in the domain is a good SEO step .. but besides this there are many other steps you must follow to get a high SERP !
I realize this, but I am talking about exact keywords for products I am selling. A competitor has been doing this for several years and I didn't catch onto it until recently. Say you are selling widgets and he's selling widgets. He has widgets.com you buy widgets.net and follow his strategy. I just want to make sure there is nothing against Google webmaster terms for this instance. Would this be considered a doorway page, even though Google has allowed competitors site to remain in index for several years. I just don't want to take the chance on getting our main site deindexed because of trying to get more traffic with this specific strategy. There could be so many definitions of "doorway pages", I just don't want ours to fall under one of the bad ones.
This is not against Google webmaster Tos .And also widgets.net will be same as widgets.com .. Search engines do not discriminate between domain extentions.
I think what Golf - Guy means is the same question i posted just above (woops ) itsall3.com is for videos games ringtones -- but none of these keywords are in the domain, So is it ok (in googles t&C), to buy say, the following: www.really-really-good-free-games.com www.games-for-free.com www.ringtones-logos-games.com Then having nothing on these, just a framed redirect to itsall3.com I know its not the only way to get in the top, but it must help. Regards.
yeah, something like that. Example, the comp is selling fruit, so naturally the comp. is selling apples. Search for apples and his site apples dot com comes up first page serps. Here's where it gets into the grey area. The comps main site is not apple dot com. It's fruit dot com. He's just using apples dot com to drive traffic to fruit dot com. To do this, he is basically using an image with content and then a link to his site. No forced redirects. Just a link to his main site's home page or to his internal apples page. Now you could argue that he just needed to SEO his internal apples page, but he has chosen this route and it hasn't been penalized, by Google at least. Is this an ethical alternative, to use a keyword domain in this respect. Are there any drawbacks?
